World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
