Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
