An individual who laced candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said Ruben continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
